I am having such a love affair with Amanda's work at present, the salad sandwich is gorgeous, the lettuce looks so fresh (& real) and the orange drink........well, let me just say that it would really hit the spot at the moment if only it was real.....(we have waited long enough & now finally we are enjoying some summer weather). ....this is my latest little purchase, (I know, I know.....get building, not buying...lol!)....but I just couldn't resist. As you can see the detail is perfect, as is the scale......Look at the detail of the tomatoes, the delicate sheen on the ham and all those lovely little crumbs from the hand cut bread....very exciting....lol!!!!

The artist who made this is new to me (perhaps not to you...?), it is the first piece I have bought from her, but I am certain it will not be the last. It has been a very nervous wait, but it has arrived and arrived safely....!!! I am referring to the lovely give-away I won from IGMA Artisan Teresa Martinez (of Spain). Wow...what can I say...? It is a delight, I love it! Teresa's detail is of course amazing, I cannot beginning to understand how many hours it would have taken to make such a piece....to make each and every little grape...unbelievable!! I have longed to own a piece of Teresa's beautiful work....this piece I shall cherish always.

....good things come to those who wait!!! I did wait some time to receive this amazing little cup & saucer.....but I firmly believe it was worth waiting for!! It is all hand made by Teresa Weston of 'China Closet'.....I even feared that perhaps it had been lost in the mail, so you can imagine my delight when it did arrive.....It is GORGEOUS!!! I can once again only marvel at the amazing skills of some miniaturists....Thank You Teresa.

This adorable little dress is the latest miniature item I have purchased for my collection. It arrived just the other day and I was absolutely thrilled to receive it and (the surprise) bonnet. Can you guess by the style of the work who made it...???

My collection is growing steadily for this next project and while I made (another) start on the house last week...(I was designing the roof)...construction has come to a halt due to a car accident (in which I received a broken rib). 2011 has not been the best of years for me, so I am very pleased to see that we are steaming (full stead ahead) towards 2012. I hope for better things next year...?

Well, (enough of me...) did you guess who made the gorgeous little dress?......yes, it was Lea Frisoni!!! Like most (all) of you (I am sure), I enjoy watching Lea make her latest little house.....her work is a joy!! Thank you Lea.

I was saddened this morning to read Rosanna's blog http://lastanzadigiuggiola.blogspot.com . Genoa has experienced some terrible flooding. We were in Genoa just 12 months ago and Rosanna proudly showed us her beautiful city. I came to love this city and I very much enjoyed the week we spent there (....I hope to return again one day?....)

Genoa is such a beautiful city, I have longed to share with you some more of my photos.....I hope this is the appropriate time to do so...??

I know that perhaps the worst is not over, as Rosanna tells me that more bad weather could be on the way. My thoughts are with you all!!!!

These are the other little 'pretties' I promised to show you. You will possibly have already seen some on Catherine's blog (Kilmouski & Me) as I included some in with her birthday present. I knew (thought..? hoped..?)...that Catherine would like these as much as I did. I wanted to show you these a lot sooner but didn't want to ruin the surprise for Catherine.
Aren't they divine....I adore the detail!! There are many designs to choose from and if memory serves me correctly, they also come in 1:24th scale. Slow and steady....

I was going to write 'wins the race'.....but of course there is no race, (and if there was, I would be miles behind the hare.....) but I am enjoying collecting and enlarging my collection of miniatures for my next/new project. I think the thrill of hunting down some of these miniatures is some times the best part of being a miniature collector......I have bought many little delights over the past few months, but it was one piece that I enjoyed making (I should say 'assembling') just last week. It was a Cynthia Howe 12th scale (laser cut) bird cage kit. The detail and design I think is fabulous and it went together in a matter of minutes. The cage can be painted etc....but for this project I (think) I prefer it left natural, it has a wonderful Victorian feel about it.....I'm loving it!!!!! There is of course a few more pretties, but I shall show you those in a day or two.

Grasse in the south of France was another great place that I enjoyed seeing last year. I always love to explore back streets and alley ways, some how they always offer you a far better feel for what the town is really like as opposed to the 'touristy' parts of towns and cities. I adore the ages patena of these buildings, the shutters in urgent need of repair and the cold draughty alley ways that (even on the warmest of days) can give you 'chills'. France really has some thing to offer every one.!! p.s.....sorry about deleting my previous post, I blogged using my iPad and I wasn't 100% happy with the result....!

Yesterday I received this beautiful gift from Marlies. She has hand made this amazing set of 12th scale lingerie.....it is an absolute delight!!!! The detail is perfect, as is the scale and I adore the gorgeous little silk bows...aren't they divine??!! Marlies used 'old cotton lace' and loads of love to make this little set. I have included 3 photos in this post, they are of course similar but different, I wanted you to be able to see all the detail.

Once your bitten....

.....yes, once your bitten by the 'travel bug' it is very hard to settle....very hard not to plan that next trip, very hard not to be envious when you hear of others heading off and very VERY hard not to expect more & more from life!!!

These photos are more of my travels, some (most) as far back as 2006 and this time we were in the south of England.....such a pretty part of the world. (I confess, I write this while day dreaming about my next trip to Paris....I am sooooo looking forward to 2012!!!)

p.s....I am a firm believer that you must have something to look forward to....it doesn't really matter how far off it might be...?!

Progress....?

These are certainly not the most glamorous photos I have posted, but it is proof that there is some progress with the new project, (how ever limited it may be....!!). I have been working on windows that I bought while away last year, while they are the right size etc., for what I want, I feel that they always need a really good sand and to do this properly I find that I end-up pulling them to pieces, then removing some pieces and adding others before being completely satisfied with them. I have also been juggling with the idea of making my own doors....this is a practise piece that you can see in the photo.....I still have not decided if I will proceed with this idea...lol!!!

Paris in black & white....

I had been wondering for some time now, just what some of my photos might look like in black & white. I confess that when I changed some from colour to b/w they looked terribly ordinary, but I loved how these looked. You have seen all of the images before, I have published them to my blog as they are ones that I took in Paris last year...but I feel that seeing them in b/w somehow adds a freshness to them....it makes them feel timeless in some way, as though they could have been taken many, many years ago and not just last year. I enjoyed seeing them and thought that perhaps you might also....?

Sadly, enough is enough!! I am really over Winter.....I so look forward for Spring to arrive and thankfully I have not long to wait now. I long for sunny days, boats on ponds, to see the roses go from bud to bloom, to see all the lovely fresh growth on the trees and to have many (many) walks in the park. So please....rain, rain, Go Away....enough!!!!

I am thrilled to announce that my 'petite maison' has been featured in the August edition of "The Dolls House Magazine". It was many months ago that they approached me and asked if I would be interested in supplying them with photos, then later an interview took place and several months later....voila!!! I am still patiently waiting to get my hands a copy, but I have been fortunate enough to have read the article (via email) and I am so very happy with it.....so thrilled in fact!!! The magazine is available through the 'gmcgroup' website or you can purchase an 'App' for your iPad and buy the magazine that way.
My blog was also mentioned in the August edition of the "Romantic Homes" magazine....(August must be my month....?)
Plus, I would like to thank those who noticed and commented on the fact that I have hit the '1000 followers' mark......they say things come in threes!!!

Thumbelina Carrots....

I first saw these 'thumbelina' carrots (real-size) at a market in Paris and I thought how wonderful they were. As I always say....what ever you can find in the 'real world' you can find in the 'miniature world', but imagine my amazement when I found these. These are made by the very talented Vicky Guile (www.njdminiatures.com). I adore the detail.....just a hint of soil still remaining.....tres chic!!! I think these will work in perfectly with the items I am currently collecting. My next challenge is to see if I can grow these little darlings in containers on my balcony...wish me luck...lol!

I'm not one to pack my miniatures away in boxes, I prefer to keep a small amount of them on display as I feel it is far more creative/inspiring when working on a new project. I dislike though the thought of my precious miniatures collecting a layer of dust....so I remembered this glass cloche that I had sitting in a cupboard and it proves to be the perfect solution.

....I don't know about you, but if I have my miniatures packed away I actually forget what I have and I have even ended up buying the same item twice....!!!

Artichokes & Kiwi Fruit from Peiwen....

A few weeks ago Peiwen showed on her blog the beautiful artichokes and kiwi fruit that she had been making and I was blown away by the detail and textures of each....so I knew I had to place an order there and then. ...the weather here in Hobart is enough to give any one 'the blues'....low temperatures, rain, wind, even snow on the mountain (well, it is winter!)....so I went looking for a little bit of sunshine of my own and found it here in these. These photos I took several years ago (some were even taken on my very first trip to France back in 2004) and they include such (very pretty) towns as Uzes, Saignon & Le Lavandou.....just goes to prove that having 'the blues' isn't all that bad after all!! Bringing kits to life....

Well....it is official, winter is here and while the days have been lovely and sunny there is a very crisp chill in the air. This week I have been working away on a few kits that I have had hidden away in boxes. I love making kits, they allow you to add you own touch to each piece and paint or polish each piece in which ever way you require.....plus they are a little easier on the purse! Several of these kits I have had for years, the little wooden table and box I simply gave a waxed finish and was very pleased with the result, the quaint little bedside table and chair were very cost effective...(they were free!!)...and I was surprisingly pleased with them..? Possibly not all of these pieces may get a home in my new project, but the were fun to make none-the-less.

French food cupboard....

....this is the first little piece of furniture finished for the 'new project'....I want these (new) pieces to look as though they might have been purchased from a French brocante....or some such??? I have painted it a soft grey, but I'm not sure if the true colour shows in the photo. At present I have it filled with items from some of my favorite 'foodies'.

p.s......French food cupboard is made from a kit....(although I added the 'chicken wire' look to the doors instead of the wire cover provided in the kit)....

Jouques....

I discovered this little town.....well, yes I am taking credit for finding this quaint little town, only because it wasn't shown on my map. It is 'Jouques' and it is actually on the D561....not far from Aix-en-Provence. It was a lovely place to stop and spend a hour or so walking about. This is one of the things I love best about France, you just take a hire car, point it in any direction and you will certainly find something amazing. As you can easily see it was Autumn when we were there and the colours were very pretty.

"Hidden in Paris"....

I must confess that I am a 'sucker' for a novel that is set in Paris....to me it is always a must buy!!! I came upon this novel written by Corine Gantz this morning, it was only released May 1st and yes, it is set in Paris!!! The synopsis reads very well and now I can hardly wait to get my hand on an actual copy. If you are always on the look-out for a good read....then perhaps this is also something you might enjoy...? Uzes....France.

It has to be said that Uzes is one of my favorite towns in the South of France.....so much so that I have been there 3 times. We first stayed there on the very first trip I ever had to France, way back in 2004, then in 2006 we stayed for another week...(you can see our little apartment in the 2nd & 3rd photo, the two windows with the cutest little balcony was our living room and bedroom). Our third visit was just last year when we were returning to Paris after our stay in Italy....we only stayed for the one night.....but it was still such a treat to be there.

The reason for this post (if there has to be one.....) I was looking for the photos of the peonies....this photo was taken in Uzes on Mother's Day 2006.

The idea of my petite maison being published into a miniature book was the idea of a fellow blogger....(one with a very good imagination...lol!) So this idea stayed in the back of my mind (along with lots and lots of other ideas...) until I came upon Maria's work!

Maris comes from Rome and she makes some really beautiful books, she has excellent scale (which is always very important to me) and works in great detail.....plus her little books are readable.......what joy!!!! I commissioned Maris to make me 2 books....she used photos and words from my blog, I left all the details to Maris and I was so very 'thrilled' with the result!

I thank Maria very very much.....she says 'each little book is made with love'.....I can see that this is true.

Here are 3 little items that arrived in the mail yesterday. I asked Hanna Lindroth to make me a 'peeled mandarin' and a 'bunch of grapes'....aren't they fabulous, I think the detail is excellent!!....Hanna also included the wonderful little 'cob' of bread.....more miniatures for the new project!!

I am very slowly collecting more pretty little bits and pieces for my next project. The latest items to arrive in my mail box were the pretty cranberry glass items made by 'Glasscraft Uk'. The vase and the candles sticks I think are very sweet, but I adore the tiny perfume bottles and trinket/powder bowl.....very cute, very tiny and a if you drop one of the stoppers on the carpet it is an absolute horror to find.....believe me...lol!!!

The last photo is showing just some of the collection grouped together after I had the paint brush out giving them all a dust.....!!!

What's behind the doors....?

I love these huge doors/gates!! I took all of these photos on my last trip to Paris....sigh!!!

They usually open onto a small lane way that leads into a court yard that allows residents access to their apartments. You don't need me to tell you about how elaborate some of them are, how big they are and what amazing colours they are painted, because I think my photos speak for them selves......but I am always excited to get a glimpse behind these fabulous gates.....

....and some times, if you are very very lucky you get to have a really quick peak behind.

p.s.....I haven't forgotten my miniatures. I am working away on my new project ever so slowly!

Queen Mary's Dolls House....

Back in 2006 while we were touring around England, I was lucky enough to have had a visit to Queen Mary's Dolls House. The house itself was very impressive with running water and a working lift....plus many many more amazing features. The above photos are a set of postcards I bought while I was there. I came across them this afternoon while going through some boxes. I adore some of the features.....the crochet threads, the monogrammed linen, the jars of jams.....and those wonderful copper kettles!!!

I am sure that many of our U.K friends have paid this fabulous house a visit, but I thought that those of us further abroad might like to see these photos. I highly recommend a visit for any miniaturist if you ever get the chance......! Even if you are not into miniatures you will be astonished by its grandeur.

Genova....revisited!!!

Oh.....how I would love to re-visit Genova, (and Rosanna too of course)!! I must confess that I had never heard of Genova until I met Rosanna via my blog......& also by the the movie of the same name. After watching the movie I was enchanted by this wonderful city, but to stay there for a week last year was beyond my dreams.

On one of our many walks about the city I discovered this fabulous house. It was possible to walk all around the exterior of the house thanks to (public) stairs and a raised walk way that took us all the way from the front of the house (to the back) and to their roof top garden ......not terribly private for the people that lived there, but fabulous for (sticky beak) tourists like myself....lol!!! The last two photos show the outlook from the actual house. Do you like it too? At one stage I thought it might make a great miniature project....?

I long to visit Genova again!!!

I received an absolutely beautiful email from Julie of Washington. I won't tell you the content of the email, but Julie did say how she loved the shop fronts in France and England, so while I had been meaning to do a post including some of these photos I thought it was now the opportune time.

I hope you all...(as well as Julie)...enjoy this amazing array of shop fronts that Paris has to offer....don't you just 'love' all the fabulous colours that are used....the French certainly aren't shy about their choice of colours.

My poor heart skips a beat when ever I think of my time in Paris.....I long to return!!! To see again the lovely people I met would be such a treat, to visit my favorite cafes and stroll the beautiful parks and gardens.......sigh!

But until I can return my photos must comfort me!

Georgian Town House....

An addition to the 'petite maison' is this 1:144th Georgian Town House.

I made my little kit faithful to the instructions, not thinking that perhaps the kit could be improved upon....but as your saw on Catherine's blog http://kilmouskiandme.blogspot.com/ this is the case and Catherine made some wonderful improvements and fabulous additions to her kit. Saying that, I so enjoyed making this! But what I think I enjoyed the most was that Catherine and I made our little house in conjunction with one another....while she is of course in America and I am in Australia....our email boxes were kept very busy!!

The house is a little time consuming, the lighting proved a bit of a challenge at times, but all-in-all now that I have finished (and I hasten to add, that it is no where near as perfect as Catherine's) I am very content with the progress I made....(all except for the blister on my finger from the soldering iron this morning...lol)

A visit with Margaret....

It is always a delight to visit Margaret Crosswell and see the wonderful items that she has made. Margaret is working very hard towards the Sydney Miniature Fair which takes place later this year and the items she already has finished are fabulous....yes, of course I had to buy a few pieces, who could possible resist such a temptation!! I know I am very predictable with what I buy, as I adore the rose embellished jugs and vases, but this time (for my new project) I bought a few other....not so predictable....pieces! I think they are so beautiful!

As you know I am making lots of plants.....so I thought a little gnome with toadstools might be just the right items to hide amongst the pots??

Not a very exciting afternoon for some.....but I have enjoyed myself! I spent a wet & some what cold Saturday afternoon with a glass of wine and one of Pascale Garnier's tulip kits.

Once again I am very pleased with the result....Pascale's kits never disappoint me!!

Bergerac....

....during our recent trip to France we came across the fabulous town of Bergerac. It had so much character....I loved it all! But what I also loved was the fact that the town square was packed full with a market....it was a freezing cold day, but that didn't stop me from having a good look about. I came across these amazing little carts....so cute. I love the faded blue paint work of the push chair....I knew I couldn't take them home....but I knew I had to have a photo.......'sigh'

I did buy some monogrammed linen napkins....they fit in the suitcase a lot easier....lol!

Yesterday was my youngest daughters wedding. It was a perfect day, Natalie looked beautiful and David and myself are terribly proud. Official photos are not available for about 3 weeks, but of course I cannot wait that long to share these images with you.

The first photo is of course the bride Natalie.

The second photo shows a family photo.....from left is: my brother-in-law, Jim....then me,Linda....next is the groom, Paul....the bride, Natalie....Natalie's Grandmother....the proud father, David....our eldest daughter and bride's maid, Kendall....Kendall's boyfriend, Marcus....and David's sister, Mary......!

It was a magical and most enjoyable celebration.....I am filled with pride!

....Yes, finally after a full month of being ill, I can finally say that I feel a little better today....(just hope it stays that way)!! I am feeling a little guilt as so many emails have gone unanswered and many request for information are still waiting a reply.....I shall do my best and get to them all very soon.

I have started to leave a few 'comments' here and there and starting to enjoy my blog again!

1:12 scale 'tatted' doilies....

....this is the amazing work of Beverly Miles from www.miniatureneedlework.com. I contacted Bev recently to ask her to make me 2 'tatted' doilies....(one for me & one for a friend). I was very excited when they arrived in the mail recently....the detail is wonderful!!! Once again I am amazed how some people can work in such a 'fine' thread & scale to achieve such a beautiful result.

The third photo shows the doilie with a piece of Margaret Crosswell's beautiful work, plus I included the first photo to show both items compared in size with a 1/4" paint brush.

Marguerite d'Anvers....

....these are the 12th scale Marguerite d' Anvers that I am currently working on. It is a wonderful and very detailed kit by Pascale Garnier of France. I have completed the actual flowers, but have added no leaves...(as yet)...as I am unsure if they are to be used in a vase or a planter, time & energy levels will decide...lol! To say that these kits are not time consuming would be a lie, but I think...(& hope)...the results speak for themselves.

....only about another 20+ kits to go.......but not today!!

My love for Paris isn't just defined by food, flowers and the fabulous shops, but more by the wonderful 'detail' that's graces many, many buildings. In most cases it is a sight to behold, an imaged etched into your memory that at times a camera is so unnecessary....but of course I still took the shot!

I don't know whether some of you may have been wondering where I have been.....it is a little longer between posts than normal.....Unfortunately I haven't been too well, but I hope to get back to my blog and my miniatures very soon! But saying that, I have been working on one of Pascale Garnier's flower kits......the "Marguerite d'Anvers". Pascale's kits are full of detail (& delight) and I am working away slowly to give these kits the respect that they deserve. I hope I have something to show you very soon.

I am constantly amazed by the fabulous talents of some miniaturists, there are so many people making lots & lots of wonderful things! It is one thing to see these items on some-ones blog, but it isn't until one of these items arrives to your own home & is sitting on your own desk do you really see the fabulous workmanship, detail & scale that is in these items!! I am talking about the wonderful skills of Susan from http://minicrochetmad.blogspot.com/ . Susan sent me these 2 gorgeous little doilies, (which arrived Christmas eve)....they are so detailed that I am at a loss to understand how Susan works something so small, yet soooo neat by hand....truly beautiful!!!

Thank you so very much Susan, as you can see they have 'pride of place' in the 'Petite Maison'.

These photos I took in the very pretty town of Beaune....we were on our way to Italy and this gorgeous town was getting ready for Christmas. We spent several hours walking about the town centre and me taking photos.....of course! If I ever get back this way, this is certainly one town I would love to come back to. But, for now I shall wish you all a 'Wonderful Christmas'......and if I don't do another post before.....a Very Happy New Year!!! This year has been so much fun with meeting some wonderful fellow bloggers.....I can only imagine what 2011 might bring!

I love my local post office. From time-to-time they leave 'special tickets' in my mail box, when I take these to the counter they exchange the 'special tickets' for fabulous parcels that usually come from all over the world....(don't you just love blog land!)....lol!

Today my local post office presented me with a parcel and inside was a sight to behold!!! Lovely, lovely....all hand stitched....fairy's slippers!!! They are not 1:12 scale, they each measure 3 inches from heel to toe. The work in these little slippers is all hand done....wow!....the detail is amazing. I was delighted beyond belief!!!

So a BIG BIG thank you goes out to fellow blogger....I'm sure you can guess who is responsible for such beautiful work....?

These are the exquisite little slippers that Rosanna made and presented to me when I went to visit her in Genova. To say they are perfect is an understatement!....the detail is amazing and the needle work is just stunning! Of course they came in their own lovely little shoe (slipper) box.....aren't they wonderful???

I have already said 'thank you' to Rosanna...(many times),but..."Thank You!!!!" X

When I was in Paris I was lucky enough to go to 'Paris Creations'....I didn't plan my trip around the show, it was just pure chance that it was on while I was there. I bought a few pretty items... the 3 urns are made by Elisabeth Causeret (Italy) and the little box filled with sugar coated almonds in by Betty Sartorio (France). The darning mushroom, cotton reels & scrubing brush, I bought a few days early at "Poupee Tendress"........I also bought lots & lots of Pascale Garnier's beautiful flower kits. It was a great day!

Lastly....this pretty little dress is made by Lea Frisoni.....I bought it from her shop at Montmartre.

Now that I am home, I hope to be able to set to work on this 'new project'....I bought all the windows while in Paris.....so I guess there is nothing to stop me now!!

You may have noticed that I changed my 'header picture'....(I hope you like it!) This one I took while in Grasse in the south of France, plus I have spent many hours adding new photos (gadgets) to either side of my blog....(I kept some old favorites of course).....enjoy!

I have had many many wonderful experiences while overseas....(yes, I am now home!)....and I received many lovely emails and comments to my blog while I was away, thank you all so very much!
One email that was an absolute thrill to receive was from (Australian) Photographer (living in Paris) Carla Coulson. Carla was exceedingly generous with her praise regarding my blog and my photos, she kindly offered to send me her amazing book.... "Paris Tango". When I arrived home (yesterday), here to greet me was Carla's book.....it is a joy, a delight & an absolute thrill to have her book.....!! Window shopping....Paris style!

It is an absolute joy to walk the streets of Paris and admire all the beautiful shop windows....it seems no expense is ever spared with their window displays, especially at this time of the year! This of course is only a tiny tiny selection of what I have seen....certainly something here for every one!!!

Our time in Paris is coming to an end....infact today is the last day! The weather is getting very cold....I could see the snow falling last night from our apartment....sadly it didn't settle!

It has been fabulous here, but the warmer weather is now awaiting us at home, as well as our two lovely daughters....it's time to go!!! But saying that.....there is one day left and I shall make the 'most' of it!

Today we were treated to lunch by Pascale Garnier and her friend Catherine. The above photos are that of Pascale's beautiful work....I took these at last Sundays 'Paris Creations' here in Paris. Pascale sell her designs by kits..... and needless to tell you, I bought lots & lots of these at the show. There are so many varieties to choose from that it was terribly (terribly) hard to stop myself.

During lunch Catherine showed us photos of the amazing miniatures that she makes, sadly I have no photos to share with you of her work....but to say I was sitting with two of the most talented women is an understatement!!!

Then.....when I thought it couldn't get any better.....

....it SNOWED!!!! Just a little, but snow never the less!

I do believe that it is a sickness....I cannot possibly walk past a florist here in Paris without taking a photo. These I took on our way home tonight....I just adore the beautiful colours!!

The weather forecast here is for snow tomorrow afternoon, I never have to much faith with weather forecasts, but this time I really hope they have it right....'let it snow'!!!

I found this building today & fell in love with all its detail....the shaped balconies, corbels, windows.....the shutters!!! It was such a delight to see....so much detail in a relatively small building, they seemed to have had it all!....I love it!!!

One of the reasons for being in Paris at this time of the year was to see the lead-up to Christmas....& so far I haven't been disappointed!! The French certainly know how to put on a show!!

I took these photos today at the larger department stores here in Paris....they have totally 'out-done' themselves!!! There is certainly something here for every one....silver, crystal, dinner ware, fragrance, a little bit of 'bling', the biggest tree I think I have ever seen and of course a chandelier or two.....I'm in heaven!!!

I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them...gosh I'm having so much fun!!!

Chateau de Chantilly....

Chantilly by train is only about 20 mins. from Paris....(north to be exact)....plus a little walk once you get to the town, onto the chateau....but well worth every step!!

It was a perfect day, not a cloud in the sky, although there was a definite 'chill' in the air, not to mention the frost on the ground!

I think the photographs of the chateau speak for themselves, it is a spectacular place to visit.

The chateau is surrounded by beautiful manicured gardens as well as natural grounds....these would take many, many hours....if not days to explore them all....but we made some wonderful discoveries of our own in the time we had available.....the second last photo is called 'The Isle of Love'....isn't it fabulous?

A "must see" when next in Paris!! (As you can see by the lack of people, we almost had the whole place to ourselves.....such a special place and another wonderful day here in France!!!)

Place Dauphine....

....the guide book tells me that Place Dauphine was laid out in 1607 by Henri IV & named after the Dauphin, the future Louis XII & is popular with petanque (boules) players.

What the guide book didn't say, is that when you enter this little square (place) you feel as though you have been transported back in time....it is such a magical part of Paris!!

I'm loving the cooler weather, it is keeping all the tourist away....(which make it so much easier to take photos)....today was lovely, no rain but there was a very cool breeze!!

Do you like the cat I found peaking out the window at Place Dauphine....I love his little whiskers, he has so much character....tres cute!!

Gordes....

This is my second visit to this amazing little village of Gordes....the first was four years ago & it was the middle of summer.... this is a tiny hill top town and it was bursting with tourists making it far too difficult to move about....but another visit and this time the weather was a lot cooler (but a lovely sunny day non the less) but obviously too cold for the tourist.....lucky me!!

We are now back in Paris after our trip to Italy, the weather is not the best....wet & cold....but it doesn't matter, we are very snug in our little apartment....after all, it is Paris!

I am still pinching myself to make it seem real, that I actually went to Portofino! Not just Portofino but Camogli, San Fruttuoso & S. Margherita Ligure also!

The coast line near Genova is littered with these wonderful little harbours, such a feast for the eyes & the camera. Once again it was Rosanna who was our guide for the day. This lovely lady has such a passion & knowledge for the fabulous country in which she lives. She took us by bus, train & ferry to visit these amazing colourful little villages.....we had a wonderful day, the weather was perfect & the sun on the buildings made it a sight to behold.

I shall show photos of the other harbours in a future blog, but for now it is just......yes, just......Portofino!!!

It was our last day in Genova & we left Rosanna that day.....but it was not 'good-bye'.....it was just 'see you again soon'.....as we are to meet again in Paris before we head for home!

Before I came to Genova (Italy) I knew that I would like this city.....but little did I know how much I would love it!

We came to Genova to meet fellow blogger and miniaturist Rosanna Rolla. Rosanna has such a passion for her home town (city) and this has made our visit to Genova such a wonderful experience, she has showed us things and taken us to places we would never have found our selves! Thank you so much Rosanna for making this a week we shall never forget.

Musee Carnavalet....

....yesterday took us back to the Musee Carnavalet. I was there two years ago and took many, many photos (as you may have expected....!) But I was never really very happy with my photos of the beautiful gardens.....there were just far too many people there to get that one nice shot. Well, I am happy to say that the cold weather must have kept every one indoors while I had the garden to myself. So needless to say I am a lot happier with my photos this time around, yes...I was more than happy to endure the cold breeze for a good photo!

Balcony Gardens....

I so enjoy seeing the balcony gardens here in Paris, wether they are a simple window box with one or two pots or a balcony bursting with plants, they are always a delight to see!

I adore the 3rd photo, the placement and the variety of plants, but then I also love the simplcity of the 4th photo.......love it all!!!

The weather has certainly taken a change, the days are fine but there is a real chill in the air....ideal for hours upon hours of walking about Paris.

....I'm thinking the local must be thinking I am a little crazy taking all these photos of what is common day items to them.....c'est la vie...!

I must add.....my head is absolutely bursting with ideas for my next miniature project....France is certainly the place for inspiration!!!

Market Day in Paris....

....the market at Ave du President Wilson is just one of the many, many market that are held here in Paris on any given day. I have been to lots of markets and this is always a really good one! There are so many amazing things to see and these photos are just a tiny example of what you can expect to find there.

Out of respect for David there are no photos of fish.....I must admit that fish markets...how ever clean they may be...are always a little on the nose!!!

For those that might be interested to know what I did for my birthday.....well, I was treated to a 'fabulous' lunch at "Le Grand Colbert". It was divine, the atmosphere, the food....the company of course....it was a very special day!

As many of you will know, Le Grand Colbert was features at the end of one of my favorite move..."somethings gotta give"....it was just a dream to go there, I loved every minute of it!

I had a wondeful day and I thank you for all the lovely birthday messages and emails that I recieved from all parts of the world....so special!!....Thank you!

Today is my birthday......this is the reason why we are in Paris at this time of the year, it is to celebrate a 'very' significant 'milestone'. I won't say my age....they say 'a lady never tells her age'......but it is true that you are only as old as you feel. Paris is making me feel very young....lol!

What better birthday gift to recieve than to see that I now have 700 wonderful followers....thank you!

Jardin du Luxembourg....

....over the years and our many trips to Paris, the Luxembourg Gardens are always the perfect place to head go to, to cool down, to rest the tired feet or to recharge with a 'pique-nique'. But it is lovely to see the gardens at this time of the year, usualy we visit Paris in summer and you almost have fight for a seat, but this visit it was lovely to see the leaves changing colour and falling....so pretty!.......plus, we could just about have any seat we wanted...lol!

I really don't know what can be said about the beautiful roses that are sold here in Paris. Most of them grace the footpath with their beauty....(yes, in their galvanised buckets), the colours are divine and a little like the cake shops, I just have to stop and take a photo......too beautiful to resist!

I do hope you are not tiring of my Paris photos....we have a long way to go yet...lol!

Sunday in Parc de Monceau....

Parc de Monceau is one of my favorite parks here in Paris. It was a beautiful warm day here yesterday and we made the most of the day....(as did many of the locals)....by spending the day in the park....it felt just like summer!!!

I find it very hard....if not impossible.... to walk past these amazingly beautiful buildings without stopping to take a photo.....the detail is breathtaking!!!

Very close to our apartment is the 'jardin du Palais Royal'.....where we came upon this beautiful sight....she looked beautiful and the dress was fabulous!!!

The weather has had a total change today....from about 24c yesterday to rain today....but I think we were due for a rest day......

Antique Pink Roses....

I think these must be the most beautiful coloured roses I have ever seen....

We walked along Quai de Valmy today....something we have done many, many times, as this is where we stayed two years ago while in Paris.

I love to watch the boats come up Canal St Martin, it looks so pretty this time of the year with the trees starting to change colour.

....I think I was a little lost at this point....but Paris is a 'picture' where ever your turn....

....even when the skies are grey Paris still shines!!

....yes, I am 'back tracking' just a little bit. We had a lovely couple of days in London before heading to Paris. We stayed just around the corner from Oxford Street....yes, we had a wonder down Oxford Street, but I much prefer to keep away from the larger department stores etc, so we headed to Portobello Road....must more my speed...lol! I love the quaint shops, so pretty!

For those of you that are Rachel Ashwell "Shabby Chic" fans, I am here to tell you that I made a visit to her shop.....yes, it is very pretty!!! I have her books and enjoy some of her ideas, but it is not my style of decorating.....but lovely to see!

....I loved the cushion (below) that she had in her front window.....tres chic!

We arrived in Paris yesterday afternoon after a 2 day stop-over in London.....all is well and I am loving it!!!
The computer is misbehaving, hence only the one photo and not much else! I can recieve emails...(Catherine)...but for some reason I cannot send a reply..... (I am not the sharpest pencil in the box when it comes to computers....lol!)

When Catherine first contacted me, (long before she ever started a blog), to show me some of her amazing miniatures, little did I know what a lovely friendship would develop. We email regularly, we share ideas, she sends me lots of 'links' to numerous web-sites, plus we have a very similar taste in miniatures.

Today I received some lovely gifts from Catherine....some amazing apples that she made herself, a fabulous pair of (working) scissors & these wonderful keys with a key ring made especially for my next miniature project.

I have displayed some of the apples in a gift I also received from Catherine several months ago....it is a fabulous bowl made from 'ivory'.....an absolutely delightful little piece & I felt it was perfect for the apples.

All of these items will work in perfectly with my next project.....can't wait!!!

Spring....!

Tomorrow is the first day of Spring. It is by no-doubt my favorite season....everything is new & fresh & waiting to burst back into life....but sadly not in my garden! This year I shall have to make-do with my miniatures spring display of daffodils and tulips....but I'm not complaining!

Unfortunately I have nothing new to show you, just the re-arrangement of some much loved items, seeing my real garden is bare of any new life, I thought I would add this small display to my work table and thought that you also might like to see it....?

My new apartment....

As some of you already know, over the past 12 months we have been very busy building 2 new apartments......this turned out to be a much bigger project than even we even expected. David & I have the top floor apt. & our eldest daughter has the one below. They are totally different in lay-out and design......Kendall's has lots of black and is very modern, we joke that hers is the New York apt, while as you will see from the photos I am into much softer tones and I have tried to capture a French feel to ours. Several of you have asked to see some photos, so while I was preparing to send some to a friend, I thought you also might like to have a quick look.

....I am a 'less is more' sort of decorator, I don't like clutter....

....the 'Petite Maison' is no longer hidden in a back room, now that it is finished I like to be able to enjoy it on a daily basis, plus I think it works in well with our furniture...?

....my much loved armoire I bought when we were living in Queensland, it has had a few moves since then, but hopefully it is here to stay....

....the kitchen, dining area and lounge have fabulous views over Hobart, to the left of this photos is a sliding door that give access to a HUGE balcony....can't wait for summer!

....this is my fabulous 'smeg' oven, the kitchen has highly polished black floor tiles and black granite bench tops....I love how it looks at night time....

....one of my many books about France, I love Vicki Archer's latest book and I certainly can't bring my self to hide it away....the monogrammed lamp shade I bought in Provence....

....this is the hall way through to the guest bedroom and the room on the right is where I blog and play with my miniatures....

....guest bedroom....waiting for Mercedes to come and stay!!!

....and of course there are several crystal chandeliers, this is in the dining area.....I love it!!!

I hope you have enjoyed a quick look at my new home, it is a fabulous place to live. There are a few jobs waiting to be completed.....(that is why there is no bathroom photos...lol!)...but there is only so many hours in a day! I am looking forward to adding some garden and some lovely big potted plants to balconies etc, but that can wait for warmer weather. It's been a long 12 months and we have had some very frustrating times, health issues also popped their ugly heads up as well through this period, but all in all I'm loving my new home!!

I'm not a fast worker, I always like to take my time when I am making/beginning a new project, if fact it doesn't really bother me if it does take years to make. I would prefer to get the exact pieces I need (or want) and I don't mind waiting until I do.

These are some fabulous little items I have sitting on my desk, I don't pack them away as they add to the inspiration for the next miniature house and I love to add new items and see that they blend well together.....I don't like any one piece to dominate.

.....I do hope you know what I mean....lol!....

Of course some of these items may be left as they are, some may be painted...only time will tell!

Thoughts of Paris....

With Paris always in my thoughts, these are some French essentials.....at least they are for me!
A really good travel guide of Paris, (or France if you plan to travel further afield) is a must, you won't want to miss a thing. It is wonderful to relax after a long day of sight seeing with a soothing glass of rose. My all time favorite dessert is a creme brulee, but what better way to start the day than with a petit dejeuner of crusty fresh bread or a cloud soft croissant.......doesn't it just make you want to pack you bags!
Of course all of these things are wonderful to experience in 'real-life', but it such a buzz to be able to find all my favorite things also in 'miniature'.

Passementerie....

Passementerie is the French word for trims, braids & tassels etc......

These are some tassels I made in a "Passementerie" class (here is Tasmania) way back in the 90's. They have been lovingly packed away for the last couple of years, but now have finally been given a new home. They work in very well with my French furniture and luckily my choice of colours hasn't dated too much. I enjoyed these classes, they were run by a local needle work shop and my friend and I would have a wonderful day away to make what ever tassels was on offer. We would arrive home very excited with what had taken us the whole day to make......we were always very proud of what we had accomplished...lol!

I thought you might have liked seeing the type of crafts I used to make until the 'miniature bug' bit me again!!

Playing with ideas....

I'm just sitting here playing with ideas for the next project. It's all happening a little too slow for my liking, (the real house must come first)! But that doesn't stop me day-dreaming, something I have been doing lots of lately. I thought this little arrangement would make a nice photo, it is made-up from items from all across the world. I made the daffodils, there is a much treasured book (at the back) from Catherine, the cheese and fruit platter is from England....I made the mail, but the wonderful little cushion, bird houses, newspaper, novel and the fabulous little travel book (full of photos, letters & tickets) are a gift from Mercedes when she came to visit. It is all going to work so well together that I just can't wait to start.....but I am not known to be a fast worker when it comes to miniatures......of course there is no hurry.....is there???!!!!

I receive some beautiful comments on my blog, one I received today says she is 'inspired' by my work & she thanks me for sharing the petite maison with you all......I just wanted to say that it is these lovely comments that inspire me to do further work......I thank 'anonymous' for her lovely words.

My dear friend Josie, who I met when I lived in Queensland has returned to the UK to live. She asked me to let her followers know that once she has set herself-up again, she will return to blog land......I shall miss Jo very much!! While we have been living many hundreds of miles apart, that now has turned into many thousands of miles apart, but with someone as fabulous as Jo it won't matter whether we are next door or on the other side of the world, our friendship will always remain the same.....wishing you the very best Jo....Linda x

Oh, the photo......I adore crystal chandeliers whether it be real size or miniature, this is one that I have in my dining room in my new home......it always adds a little sparkle to my day!

Frederica from http://fredericaslittleworld.blogspot.com/ recently sent me a fabulous gift, a pretty pink cardigan and a wonderful little doll. What makes these so special is that Frederica has hand knitted both of these amazing items herself. The cardigan is so fine and delicate and I adore the pearl edging, but the little doll has such wonderful details, her own little hat and shoes. Both of these items will work in perfectly with my new project.

There aren't too many miniatures being made by my hands at present, but this is a fabulous purchase I bought from Sarah Maloney. When I set my eyes on this wonderful little piece I knew immediately that it would work in my next project. It is lovely selection of French cakes blushed with a soft shade of pink. a 'sigh' of relief....

....yes, a big sigh of relief! We have at long-last moved into our new home. It has been a lot of work and sometimes I wondered if the day would ever come, but we are now in and I am loving my new home. We have been renting for the past 18 months and it is a delight to unpack forgotten treasures....feels a lot like christmas! We have a few minor things to finish inside and a few....not so minor....things to do outside, but I am so thrilled I could burst!!

The very last thing that moved in....just last night....was the 'petite maison'. It is always a big job to relocate such a small house, but everything must be removed from the house as it can only travel laying on its back.....I'm sorry to say that I do not allow the removalist to take it....far to precious for that!

I do hope that life can now get back to normal, or as close to as possible. I have numerous blogs I need to catch-up with and I hope.....yes, really hope, to be able to get back to making some miniatures.....can't wait. But before I can do that, all the furniture (as the first photo shows) must be replaced and all the tiny details must go back where they belong.

I have so missed my blog and yours of course.....and cannot image what life would be like had I not discovered this wonderful world of blogging!!

So very busy....!

Yes, we are so very very busy, unfortunately it is not miniature related, but it is a house! As some of you know, we are building a new home. It is getting close to being finished, but there is still lots to be done before we can move in. So every waking moment has been spent at the house....well I do lie, as I do treat myself to seeing what is happening in blogland and what wonderful things you are all making.......(couldn't survive without my blog...lol!). We hope to be moving-in in about a weeks time....(all being well)....and then I hope to get back to my beloved miniatures.
Oh, the photo is a panorama of my new view....beautiful at day time, but absolutely divine at night!

Look who came to play....

......yes!!! Finally my visit with Mercedes actually happened!!! I know we have been talking about it for some time, but this wonderful lady actually came to visit. Firstly, I must say that I was thrilled to think that anyone would want to take the time, trouble and expense to visit me and my 'petite maison', so I thank her so much for that. We had a lovely day, lots of talking and laughing, we went out to lunch and then back to my house to make some miniature roses......with lots more talking....of course! Mercedes is a 'machine'....I use this word in the nicest possible way......she made 7 roses to my 3.....I wasn't really keeping score, but she can work fast (or perhaps I am just slow!!!)...... we also found out that we can talk and work at the same time...lol!
As you would all know by 'comments, emails and some have even had phone calls', that Mercedes is such a lovely, warm and friendly person and we had a fabulous day! Her husband Jonathon has promised to bring her back again......(possibly for a longer stay), which I must say I am holding him to this promise and I'm already looking forward to her next visit.
Thank you Mercedes, I had a fabulous day and I look forward to seeing your photos.....yes, she took lots!!

So I have been making more aubusson rugs! I have acquired some very pleasing new designs and was thrilled with how they printed out. I'm happy to add that a couple of these rugs are soon to find new homes on the other side of the world. Through blogging I have found many wonderful people happy to share their work with me and I am only too happy to be able to repay their kindness.

...just have to find time to now make it to the post office...lol!!!

This amazing building is situated on Avenue Van Dyck, (which happens to be an extension of one of the avenues that radiates from the Arc de Triomphe). It is also situated on the very edge of the beautiful Parc de Monceau. It is a breath-takingly beautiful building with so many wonderful details. Even the flower beds were manicured to perfection! I have no idea what the building is (public...? private...?) but I do know it was an absolute treasure to find.

I regard this as one of my 'petite tresors'.....one of those amazing finds along the way that you remember fondly once you have returned home.....'the small treasures of life'.

....yes, I'm being a little boring I know! I'm even boring myself, but there just doesn't seem to be any time for miniatures lately!! So there is no miniature project to report on....it's just the 'hum-drum' of every day life. My new project is taking shape...if only in my mind, no that's not totally correct, I have made a start, but nothing that is worthy of sharing......but at the very least I have always photos of fabulous Paris to share!

Speaking of Paris, I would like to wish all my fellow bloggers who are off to SIMP this week end in Paris the very best. I know you shall all have a wonderful time whether you are there as a buyer or a seller...(or both). I hope you remember those of us who can't make it Paris this time and take lots & lots of photos for us all...please!

....is how Castle Coombe was described to me before I went to visit.

As you all know I have a huge passion for France, but I have had several wonderful holidays in England and one little town that is placed firmly in my memory is Castle Coombe. It was recommended to us to visit by the bar attendant in a local hotel and he said...(in that wonderful English accent)... that it is 'the prettiest town in all of England'.

He wasn't too far wrong!

Miniature Mail....for sale!

I have been busily working away on a few commissions for miniature mail and I though I would make an extra one.....if any one is requiring miniature mail I have 1 lot for sale. It includes, an aged covered shoe box with approx 26 postcards, 14 envelopes (posted mail), 2 envelopes with revealed content (letter & photo), a bunch of letters tied with a silk bow and 3 unused airmail envelopes with a sheet of stamps......there are lots of possibilities of how you could use these about your miniature house.....if you are interested contact me regarding price.

Inspiration....

Miniature time is very limited at present, but the above photos taken by June for her blog http://laughingwithangels.blogspot.com was all the inspiration that I needed to 'get in' and make-up this wonderful flower kit by Pascale Garnier. I have a good supply of Pascale's beautiful kits, but most of the instructions are in French and I haven't taken the time to translate them, but this latest kit arrived with joy of all joy....English instructions!!!

Even with limited time, flower making is very time consuming, so progress was slow, but I am pleased to say I am very happy with the result.

....this is one of my many photos I took in Paris in 2008. As the title says.... 'lifes favorite joys'....well they are for me. I can't possibly walk past a beautiful crystal chandelier with out stopping.... but when I stop a photograph is a must! With this photo I got a bonus, I also got the reflection of the beautiful building across the street.....I miss Paris!!!

As most of you already know, I am the very proud and happy winner of the fabulous 'give away' held by Catherine of http://kilmouskiandme.blogspot.com/ . Buttons is all hand made by Catherine....it makes my mind boggle as to the talents of some people. Catherine sent Buttons via "Express Mail" from America to his new home here in Australia...(so in my mind he flew 'business class and not 'economy'..lol!)...but we are both pleased that he arrived safely!! He is the most adorable little fellow and I am thrilled to bits to have him living in my little French house.

Once again a very big thank you to Catherine, little Buttons shall always be a treasured addition to the petite maison.
