"sous le figuier"....

It appears that I didn't give you 'enough' in my last post? I hope this post shows you more detail and answers some of your questions......not all questions can be answered at this point as I do not know all of the answers.....colour etc., etc...
All of "sous le figuier" is self made......at this stage I have only purchased the windows and the stairs, but I have made exterior changes to the larger windows. The shop front, the body of the house, all the cladding, doors, shutters and all external details are 'scratch' made....(not sure if I like the term 'scratch made'....but that seems to be the term that is used by many....?).....but anyway, made by me!!!
Sadly I do not have any wonderful electric tools etc., that can cut multipal pieces of wood to the same length....instead I sit here and work away (slowly) with my (trusty) "Easy Cutter". It is the same cutter that I used to make the 'petite maison'....I did buy what was supposed to be a 'new & improved' "Easy Cutter" but I quickly returned to my old one.
This house is as deep as the 'petite mason' but not as wide or as high. I wanted the same depth so that I can have a rear room etc (dimension), but I didn't want the ceilings to be as high, so the over-all height is (obviously) lower. I am very happy with the over-all proportions...it is important to me to get this correct!!
I love working with 'strip-wood'.....I sit for hours with a bundle of different shapes and sizes to make details such as the 'lip' around the top of the house (where the roof meets the house) and of course the shop front.....I can't wait to get started on the interior, to make wall panelling, floor tiles etc, etc.....if it can be made out of wood, then that is what I choose!
There were/are so many wonderful building in Paris that gave me inspiration for this house and of course the 'petite maison'....but unlike the 'petite maison' this time I do not want all the fancy detailing and corbels etc.....I choose a 'plainer'  (less elegant?) house.
Okay....there you have it.....enjoy!!! Linda x

I really love it Linda, perhaps you should provide plans (a book?) on how to build it, I wouldn't know where to begin, seem to have a mental block when it comes to building. It is so elegant already.

oh Linda. "Less elegant" is the absolute last term to describe anything of yours. There is definitely beauty in less adorned things.
One could describe it as "less ornate" perhaps.

yeah every time something is "new and improved" that most definitely means worse....oh well... it is very inspiring making everything from scratch, well done so far---

Dare I say I like this stylish and elegant building even more than its' big sister? Big sister is perfect of course, as will be the new 'baby'. Thanks for sharing. You are very talented with your builds. As Margaret said before me, I wouldn't know where to begin.....

I love everything about this one Linda.

You give a lot of hope to people that don't have fancy power tools and think they can't make something without them.

Ah I see I was not wrong about that staircase handrail...that's gorgeous!
I always love to see work in progress photos, wonderful to see how you go about achieving the effect you want. And you prove you dont need expensive or power tools to build a dolls house.

Oh, Linda the stair banister is just Gorgeous! We have one almost exactly as curved in the building where I work in RL scale! I am so impressed with your fine work and all you are using is the easy cutter???? (Maybe it is time I invested in one!) Your woodworking is beautiful and you make it sound so wonderfully therapeutic to cut so much strip wood! And I know you have done your research on the style of buildings you are building.... it just all looks so Beautiful and graceful and French!
Thank you for sharing more photos and description of your work process... it might sound boring to you, but I know I am not alone in being awed by your work... and loving every little snippet you show! I wasn't a blogger yet while you were building the Petite Maison... so I missed out on that... I am very excited to be following your new project!

Hello Linda!
Thank you for the kind note you left me on my blog and forgive me for not responding. The past year was awful and I neglected many friends.
I love your new structure......you don't need to hear again how talented I think you are. I am enjoying watching this new creation come to life.
Appreciate your friendship!
Warm regards from Ray

Hi Linda! This is such an inspiring build. . I love the look of the facade and the interior staircase is simply wonderful. I am glad to learn of your personal recommendation and endorsement of the Easy Cutter as I have long been curious as to its efficacy.
All in all, your craftsmanship is a Joy to behold Linda and I am so glad that you have shared your pilgrims progress to date. It has definitely been a fun mini Grand Tour!

Linda, thank you for sharing some of the details of this house. I can't imagine how you accomplish so much without power tools. I wouldn't even think of attempting something on this scale. I look forward to watching your progress on another masterpiece....Penny
