I have a question...?

I love the beautiful soft blue, that they do so well in France....I also love the 'sneak peak' that I had of the court yard behind these doors....
....the beautiful blue of this door, with the paint peeling and the ironwork on the windows....I adore!
....I love the blue shutters and the iron balcony....

....the pretty little shop in Paris....all painted blue..... so cute!

....and I adore these faded pale blue shutters surrounded by all the ivy!!!

Which brings me to my question! Do I paint the front door blue on the 'petite maison'? One day I say 'yes' and then anther days 'no'! But after posting these photos that I took on several different visits to France..... I am thinking???.....'perhaps'.......what do you think????

I have had the very best of days! As today Mercedes telephoned me and we talked and laughed for ages, it was wonderful! All being well I might have the pleasure to meet Mercedes next year....I think it will be wonderful to finally meet a 'blogfriend'.....thank you Mercedes for making my day!!

Hello Linda,

I say, yes, paint the door blue. And if you don't like it, you can always paint it back to white!

I think the blue door will look perfect, adding just a hint of color.

Hugs,
Marsha

I would definately paint that door French blue, it would be perfect. You can always change it every year or so....just like a real house (not that it isn't).

I like the idea of blue too. A pale, faded Paris blue. It will be lovely!

You have to try the blue! Generations of French could not be wrong!

Well you know I love that faded color of blue, it is what I painted the doors and windows of the French Coastal Cottage I am building.

But as a help for making up your mind perhaps you should try changing the color of the door in a photo editing program to see how it looks to you without every putting real paint on it. I you can't manage it let me know as I can do that for you.

Here is your dollhouse with a French Blue door. It might be a little darker than you want but it will give you the idea of how it looks with color.

I will delete the photo from my album right after you have viewed it.

I think a blue door will look very nice. Not that the white door isn't. But it can give it just that little more with a bit of colour.

What a perfect idea Karin, as you said the blue is a little too dark, but it is certainly very helpful, thank you so very very much!

Your photos of france are so beautiful, you could write a book with them.
I think I would paint the door blue if I were you and as other bloggers said you could always change the colour if you don't like it.
I love your house.

I'm afraid I'm against the flow: I love that Lavender blu, it's very difficult to find it out France, but yours is not really a "petite" maison. Small in size but not in grandeur. May I suggest a dark polished door, like the ones you can find in Place de Vosges or Saint German? it's lovely to talk with far away friends. Up to now I only talked to an English friend but if someone would send her number?!(hint hint) have a nice day Rosanna

Ill get shot down in flames for saying it too, but Id leave it as it is. The other houses you show all have other areas of the blue to coordinate and unless you were going to do matching blue areas around the windows or trims etc i think a blue door on its own may look out of place with the other stone work on the house. My opinion of course and against lots of others!!! lol Kate xx

I can understand your hesitation! Why not leave the Petite Maison as is and use the French blue on your next property?

Eva J said...

Hello
I would definitely try a very
pale/old blue colour! maybe you
coult make a little bit of cardboard in the same size as the
door, paint it, and put in in front just to see how it looks?

Hello Linda, I do not think it would be well your door blue, because your house is not small, but elegant building, then I see a better door dark blue and shiny, even if this is perhaps a bit "English"!
But anyway if you decide to do the blue door, you should also paint the blue wall near the bottom of the stairs, as in photo no. 2, and also around the windows .... But you have not put the shutters, so ...
I think the idea of doing a test with the card is excellent, so you can decide for yourself the results!
kisses, Caterina

PS would be nice to talk on the phone, too bad I do not know how to speak English ... SOHB! Fortunately they invented Google Translate! Hee hee!

Hallo Linda!

I think that the petit maison is perfect the way it is! Certainly I can understand that you think about changing the colour of the door due to the fact that I'm always thinking about changing the colour of different things on my house.

BUT... If you really really want to change the colour of the door, do it! If your are not satisfied with the result you can paint it white again :-)

Hugs, Taenia

Hello!
Your "Petite Maison" is what we called a "hôtel particulier". In Paris this kind of houses has wood doors darkned by time with or without ironwork on it.
They are not painted. This grey-blue is french but not parisian.
I love your work anyway!

I agree that it is lovely as it is. But at the end of the day, if it is something you want to try, then go ahead. Maybe you could cover the door in paper painted blue to see if you like it.

For such a grand house, I think a bright red door would look wonderful.

Have the comments helped in the decision process? ;)

Hoping you are continuing to mend every day. :)

That door has got to be the soft blue - it will look great.

I love all the photos. How about a pale blue wash over the door and let the lovely white show through. You could do a blue wash on the inside of the door frame too, it might add a shadow effect. Washes often make things look very three dimensional. How wonderful you talked to Mercedes!!! All the best,
Mini Hugs, Jean

Dear Linda, I thought I would be the odd one out by suggesting you leave it white! I do love the soft blue (I've used it on my flower boxes) but your house is so elegant and I think the blue is more cottage? BUT as the girls say, you can always paint it again! So please you are feeling better! Terryx

Linda--Here's a photo of blue doors in Paris:

If you google doors of Paris and click on images, you will see many blue doors. I vote you paint yours.

I think the blue would add a little color in a very nice way! But I'm wondering if it wouldn't be nice to then add some touches of the same blue in some other places too? I guess you would have to try it first on the door and then see if it needs it any other place.
I really love your pictures of France, it makes me travel there right away.

Hi Linda, I say go for it! I think it would be very special for you since you love it so much. You can always repaint if you don't like it . . . but I'm thinking you're going to love it!

I'm so glad you had a good day today . . . there's nothing like chatting with a friend for hours about nothing at all! LOL!

Bonjour Linda! If you like the idea give it go, a pale blue grey would be fabulous. Your photos are always fo great, did you take them yourself? So glad to hear you are feeling better.

Oh yes! Paint it blue! I love your house as it is, but I do think that soft blue will just add that "je ne sais quoi" to it!
